Meet Pride & Joy

This is Pride.  He is a little smaller than Joy, and his head is very white.  He occasionally shows 2 black pinstripes on the right side of his tail, which help identify him.  He is a tireless worker, bringing sticks and soft material every day to constantly build up the nest.  He provides Joy with food at the nest and does a great job taking his turns to incubate the eggs so she can stretch her wings a little.  He has been observed many times enthusiastically dragging sticks all over the nest, bonking a patient Speckles in the face as he positions them just the way he needs them to be.  Sometimes, a tug of war results!

This is Joy. Her nickname is Speckles, because of the pretty speckled appearance that the darker feathers on her head give her. This probably indicates that she isn’t much older than 4 or 5 years old; definitely no older than 8.  She is a spectacular mom though, patiently protecting her eggs from rain, wind, snow, and all sorts of intruders who would like to grab them.
